 Grid Grid Grid

Picture
This research is dealing with different types of grid structures, considering material structures, conceptual patterns and other implications of how grid systems influencing our daily life. I came to this interest through photographing the rich variety of window grids in my neighbourhood in Budapest. I was fascinated by the diversity and playfulness of these structures, which are not really part of mainstream design. These elements, which are used for protecting human life and property, are usually also treated with some decorative function. This desire to decorate creates the variety of patterns, which are diverse in form and structure. I used these found patterns as inspirations, to create new pattern design for example wrapping paper. Conceptually, i was interested in different aspects of grid structures. I studied the grid as material structure, how we use it in daily life, how it perceived in visual art. I came to the realization that beyond designer thinking our world and our perception of it is based heavily on grid structures. There are different types of use, but we are relying on grids everyday. It provides connection, security and guidance.
